Cubs: It's Getting Hot in Here

So with the winter meetings about to start it looks like we are going to see a lot of activity and maybe get a few of the question marks that the Cubs have answered and hopefully not mortgage the farm[system] to do it.

Tim has tried to temper my excitement for Juan Pierre for a while but it didn't really sink in until I started looking at his stats and trends. As The Cub Reporter says, it isn't bad but it certainly isn't pretty. So news that the Cubs are in serious talks with the Dodgers for Milton Bradley, still being mentioned (albeit in passing) in the Johnny Damon speculation, and rumored to be trading Ronny Cedeno straight up for Brad Wilkerson is welcome. Bradley will likely put up better offensive numbers than Pierre and, as rumor has it, will only cost us Todd Walker.

Out of all these rumors I think the Cedeno for Wilkerson move is the most interesting because it implies we have a shortstop locked up. This wouldn't suprise me since we've heard lately that movement on Furcal's situation is going to happen soon and the Cubs offer is apparently longer in years and bigger in dollars than the Braves. Though the Dodgers apparently getting in to the mix recently by meeting with his agent yesterday could throw a monkeywrench into things.

So I am looking forward to seeing what transpires in the next week or so.
