Last Weeks Family Guy Intro

Last Sunday's Family Guy episode "PTV" might have been my all time favorite. I knew it was going to be a good when they started the show with two great homages. The show started with Stewie taking out OBL in a very funny, Bond-esque cold open and then, instead of the typical "song and dance" intro, an incredible Police Squad intro ensued with a mind boggling number of pop culture references. On the very cool Family Guy Blog, one of the animators, Dan Povenmire, posted a comment about how they did one of the best scenes in the Police Squad montage, the DOOM sequence:

We put the "Doom" bit in before we knew there was a movie coming out. I actually had to go on Ebay and buy an old Super Nintendo in order to get video of it for the animatic. When it came back in color we wanted a better capture of it and it took our best minds more than a week of trying different wiring set ups before we were able to get what you saw on the TV.

Also, Fox has podcasts now for all their popular shows and has a commentary for the "PTV" episode in the Family Guy section (podcast rss) which is pretty good.
